It has been an unusual fall kingfish run so far. The predictability of our kingfish bite has been less than guaranteed. The on again, off again fronts coming from the north have had a big impact for sure. I mentioned some tips on my radio show this morning. I have found success marking bait along nearshore wrecks, then sinking diving plugs like the Bomber Saltwater Grade CD (certified depth) 25. Darker colors have been working best for me, trolled as slow as possible to obtain target depth. Spanish Mackerel are eating almost everything during this process. I wanted to blog about the 1 November closure of trout and red snapper seasons. The red snapper bite has been extremely good and it is unfortunate that we have to put it on hold. I am caught between the lines as a conservationist and a professional fishing guide. No matter how absurd we may view the FWC's constant changes in seasonal regulations using what is often called junk science, it has made a positive impact on plenty of species. Does anyone want to comment on new catch limits, seasonal closures, or license requirements?
