ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys -- Camaraderie, professionalism and competition drive female anglers to the challenging Islamorada Women's Sailfish Tournament, set for Friday through Sunday, Feb. 12-14.While the lady anglers compete, men are set to board their own boats to fish for a *** cancer cure during the one-day Billfishing for Boobies tournament set for Saturday, Feb. 13.The weekend's combined tournament activities are scheduled to kick off Friday with a 5 p.m. registration, hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar at Marker 88 Restaurant, mile marker (MM) 88 bayside in Islamorada. A rules meeting follows at 6:45 p.m., with late registration and a live and silent auction to start at 7:30 p.m.Lines-in is to be called at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13. Both of the light-tackle tournaments' rules require 12-pound manufacturer's stated test line on anglers' reels, and only circle hooks are allowed. Lines-out for female and male anglers is to be called at 4 p.m. A standings dock party gets started at 5 p.m. at Wahoo's Bar & Grill at Whale Harbor, MM 83.5 oceanside.Sunday's fishing continues for the women's sailfish tournament only, with the action slated to run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.Cocktails and dinner are to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Marker 88 Restaurant, followed by the overall awards ceremony. Awards await the grand champion team (boat), first runner-up and second runner-up team, captain and mate, as well as those recognizing the high-point angler, outstanding catch, largest tuna, dolphin and kingfish, most tagged sailfish and hard luck.As in past years, proceeds from the Islamorada Women's Sailfish Tournament help Voices for Florida Keys Children.
